I'll decide what jokes - "adolescent" or not - I put in on a thread, Pondero, not you. That someone starts a thread does not imply that they have control over its content. I agree that one shouldn't waylay a serious thread with excessive frivolity but the odd light-hearted comment amidst more serious contributions surely isn't out of place.

No-one can stop anyone really from posting what they like except the moderators. But, some things are in bad taste and I don't like it!
Let nothing disturb you.
Let nothing make you afraid.
All things are passing.
God alone never changes.
Patience gains all things.
If you have God you will want for nothing.
God alone suffices.

OK, Pondero, you've made your position clear. Here's mine: Please spare me your prudish considerations of what constitutes bad taste.

That's all.

Higgs was one physicist, Bose (Satyendra Nath Bose) was another. Nothing offensive about any of it. Nothing offensive about light hearted banter either, especially from fellow believers. Lighten up or Santa won't be coming down your chimney.

I should've twigged, as Greg says, that it was 'Bose' with the usual '-on' suffix, as in proton, electron, muon, gluon, strollon, rockon, moron, etc.

It's fortunate that Bose had a nice, short name that could be easily and succinctly adapted to 'boson'. Imagine if, instead of that Indian physicist, it had been an English scientist with a cumbersome double-barreled name. The Higgs Cholmondeley-Featherstonehaughson doesn't have quite the same ring to it. :o

Higgs Boson wanders into a church and is accosted by an angry layperson.

"We don't want arrogant blasphemers here! "God particle", indeed! You should leave!"

"All right" shruggs Higgs, "but you can't have Mass without me".
