Face to Face...with Martin Luther King

Postby GregB » December 15th, 2014, 7:11 pm

'Face to Face' was an interview programme on British television back in the early 1960's (probably the first of its kind in the UK) where John Freeman - whose face was never seen, in fact, only the back of his head - interviewed a well-known personality each week There are several on youtube (including the famous one with Tony Hancock) and here is the one with Martin Luther King, who gives some fascinating background details of his life and his role in the civil rights movement. He was a wonderfully eloquent man, as the interview makes clear.

This is the first part; the second and third parts are on the same page:

King visited London 50 years ago, and preached in St Pauls. There was an article on it in the Guardian G2 section a week or two ago. That's when the Face to Face interview took place. Intersting factlet that I discovered: some years later, after MLK's murder, his widow Coretta became the first woman to preach in St Pauls.
