Prayers for the family of Konstandinos Scurfield

Postby Theophilus » March 7th, 2015, 5:19 pm

A few months ago a friend of mine had asked members of my parish to pray for her friend whose son (Kostas) had disappeared, the fear being that he had gone off to Syria to fight against ISIS. At her wits end, she did later get word from him, that he had indeed gone to Syria but was only teaching the Kurdish fighters "battlefield medicine" and helping them with injuries sustained fighting the Islamacists.

Well, it appears this was just said to pacify his mother, as Konstas had indeed been fighting and earlier this week made the headlines as the first Briton to die fighting ISIS. Kostas had apparently always been very idealistic and was angry that no one seemed to be doing anything to stop the spread of ISIS across Syria and Iraq, their oppression of non-Muslim minorities, and their destruction of ancient Christian sites (and communities - people). He has decided to 'do something' and paid the ultimate price.

His family is devastated. His mother, Vasiliki, has lost a child before (stillborn) and now has lost another, aged just 25. That the story has made the headlines has also added to their distress, although neighbours have helped in preventing nosey reporters from invading their privacy.

Please pray for Kostas if that is your wont, and the family he has left behind.

I will certainly say prayers for Konstandinos as he was a very brave man fighting for a cause we all believe in. The defeat of ISIS.As an ex-Royal marine he was giving medical help to the Kurdish forces, and the benefits of his army training.
If your mind is your brain and your brain is just material , would you rely on it?
