I've just clicked on my own sample links in my explanatory post above, expecting to get an error message saying that the site was not found, because I just made up "www.website.co.uk" as a dummy website for demonstration purposes. Lo and behold and blow me down, there is such a website!
Well done for understanding my rather bad explanation, btw - Having just read it again, I had trouble following it myself, and I wrote it!

How do you link to a specific post, rather than the whole thread - especially if the post you're looking at is pages from the start?

Eg. Theo has given this link: http://st-thads.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1621&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=40#p41457

whereas I would have linked to http://st-thads.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1621&st=0&sk=t&sd=a

(Never noticed this Handy Hint page before, what a good idea!)

First click on the title of the post you want to link to, Re: Handy hintlets for your post.

Go to the box at the top of your browser, where you would type in a web address to go directly to a site, and copy its contents.
Paste the copied info where you want to put the link

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=187&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=10#p41482

Hi Sally

Followed the instruction to change password

Found the user control panel then went to profile and then to edit account but can only amend my email and user name.

I can't see anything about amending password.

I'm missing something I'm sure.

I'm using an iPad.

Hi Rose
Welcome to St Thads.

The password change bit is on the same page, below the amend user name and email boxes. Do you have a box to enter your current password -that should be a the bottom of the page as it is needed to change username and email address.

I haven't tried it on an ipad, but another site I use doesn't let me scroll to the bottom of the screen using a tablet, so maybe this is similar. I could see it (just) on my phone
