Welcome to St Thads on the Net

Postby The Hosts » October 17th, 2007, 4:01 pm

St Thads on the Net is an internet community, which exists primarily to allow its members to discuss issues related to Christianity in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Although St Thads is run by Christians, it is not intended to be an exclusively Christian site and welcomes members of any faith or of none. All members are welcome to post in all areas of the forum, with the exception of the "Christian bit". Similar areas for other faith groups may be set up if requested by members.

At St Thads on the Net, respect for others is paramount, and all members are expected to treat others courteously and considerately at all times. As an aid to this, new members may only post in the Square.

St Thads on the Net has its roots in various other online communities, most recently the Sparrows Christian forum, and it is hoped that the many good aspects of these communities will be transferred to St Thads. St Jude Thaddeus is the patron saint of impossible causes :)

We hope you will enjoy posting here

Who's who

admin In charge of technical matters, admin set up the site and is the person to contact if you have any problems using it. Other users may be given responsibility for particular technical areas, but admin is the first point of contact. Admin will not post, other than announcements about technical matters.
The Hosts The powers behind St Thads on the Net, the Hosts have the final say on all matters of policy and organisation. Although they will not generally be involved in the day-to-day life of the site, the Hosts should be contacted in the case of any problems with the running of the site, concerns about moderation or suggestions for improvements. The Hosts will post when necessary for the smooth running of St Thads on the Net.

Thaddeans The life blood of St Thads on the Net, the Thaddeans are the members who form the community. The group includes everyone who wishes to be a part of this community.

Cherubim This group provides a pool of people willing to serve as forum moderators. Any Thaddean may apply to join the Cherubim, with acceptance at the discretion of the Hosts. At any one time, a small number of the Cherubim will be on duty as moderators, returning to normal user status at the end of their term of duty. The identities of the moderators at any time will not be published.
Forum officials - these are 'special users' - the active moderators log in to the appropriate forum official username to carry out any moderator activity.
Seraphim The Seraphim help the forum to run smoothly, for example by helping newcomers, or encouraging the discussions in particular forums. Any Thaddean may apply to join this group. Acceptance is at the discretion of the Hosts.
Members of the Seraphim include Welcomers, Mentors and Movers.

Welcomers Welcomers ensure that new members are noticed and welcomed to the forum. Once a new member has made some initial posts, a welcomer will add them to the Thaddeans group.
Mentors A mentor is responsible for encouraging the discussions in a particular area of the board. Mentors can copy threads from the rest of the board to their area, or move them to other parts of the board.
Movers Movers are responsible for moving posts or topics to a more suitable section of the board, and splitting or copying topics when necessary.

Leavers Everyone needs a break sometimes. Joining the Leavers group puts your membership on hold. Leavers cannot post, or send or receive private messages. Membership can be reactivated simply by resigning from the Leavers group.
