Discoloured new £1 coins

Postby sarniajoy » September 29th, 2017, 10:08 am

My husband left his coins in the pocket of his jeans when they were put for the wash. After they had been washed all the older coins were their normal colour but the new £1 coins had become discoloured and some of the gold had turned to silver, WEIRD!  I reckon they might be rejected if they are used to pay for goods. Has anyone else had a problem like this?

I put two in with a wash this morning, will now have a look and report back.

Well my first thought was that the machine had given me change because I found two 50p coins, obviously left in a pocket.
No the new pound coin looked the same as ever, they are silver coloured in the middle. All nice and shiny plus a couple of old coins which scrubbed up quite well too.
