I've got a little list...

Postby Sprocket » July 26th, 2017, 11:12 pm

As someday it may happen that a victim must be found,
I've got a little list, I've got a little list,
Of society offenders who might well be underground,
And never would be missed, they never would be missed,
The idiots on Facebook who insist the world is flat,
And made by God in six days - and quite recently at that -
The trolls who think the sun shines out of Donald Trump's rear end
And Nigerian princes who would like you bank details to send
You fifty thousand pounds if you'll just help them get access
To money that is rightly theirs (I'm tempted, I confess):
I'd put the whole damn lot of them upon my little list;
They'd none of them be missed, they never would be missed.

The climate change deniers would be high upon my list,
For ignoring nearly every proper climate scientist
Prefering Nigel Lawson, Viscount Monckton and UKIP
(And the other Nigel - Farage - to the gallows he will trip)
And that tousle-haired buffoon who's now our foreign secretary;
A thought that's best not dwelt on, as it's really rather scary:
They too,each one of them, will find a place upon my list
I really must insist, they never would be missed.
Treason doth never prosper: what's the reason?
Why, if it prosper, none dare call it treason.

You clearly lassoed quite a few people with that, poetically and metaphorically speaking that is. That must make you...wait for it...the Poet Lariat!

Tut Tut!
You mean Al Gore ? :grin: Yes, I know he is not a scientist.
We live at a time ...characterized by a subliminal relativism that penetrates every area of life. Sometimes this relativism becomes aggressive, when it opposes those who say that they know where the truth or meaning of life is to be found. Benedict XV1.

That's great Sprocks, I'm singing it!

I remember seeing the Mikado in the 1990s and the Mikado sang, "...the man in grey who seems to cause an awful lot of strife, he thinks Bellini's Norma is a picture of his wife". There was also reference to a "polyester dome". The phrase, "I'm impressed!" was included too iirc.

I had to think about the man in grey - Major, of course.
Back in the 80s, when James Anderton, the evangelical Chief Constable of Manchester, and David Jenkins, the liberal Bishop of Durham, were too much in the news, one production had "Bishops who don't believe in God, chief constables who do".
Gilbert's original lyrics include the word "nigger"! :shock:
