Does god speak to you?

Postby Sarniajoy » October 3rd, 2017, 10:57 am

Some Christians claim that god is speaking directly to them, what exactly do they mean by that? How do they know it is god and not their imagination playing tricks?

My late unlamented mother-in-law believed she and god were on speaking terms and great buddies. God was apparently in agreement with her about everything, including which clothes were suitable to wear, and which TV programmes to watch.

I've never actually heard a voice in my ear if that's what you mean. If I did I'd book myself into a funny farm.

And when you talk to yourself, it probably means you're beside yourself...

I'm in two minds about that.

Only you and God know that, Maz.
We've been a bit flippant on this thread, I'm quite sure none of us have actually heard a disembodied voice - hope not anyway - but if we take time to be quiet and contemplate we can hear our 'inner' voice which is how God does communicate. Probably like you, I don't do that often enough. When I do, it's rewarding and I find peace.

yes, that is what I meant...
We can't hear if not listening...
and yes, not a disembodied voice - not even words most of the time..(sometimes words though - that aren't connected with what one was thinking of previously) -
but we can hear Him in many ways - through looking at the face of a person, a child, a tree, beauty in many forms -
- hear Him through something someone says or writes etc...
