Since the last post there are far too many attacks and near-misses to go through here, so best to start with the most recent in the news:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldne ... train.html

Very good news that the attack was thwarted, though worth noting that the attack was not prevented through government policy or the intelligence services but simple courageous instinct of three Americans being in the right place at the right time.

From what has been reported about the Moroccan attacker there some evidence that he was perhaps 'only' a crack-pot lone-wolf and not part of a terror cell (though how he would get hold of his weapons otherwise?). If he does turn out to not be from an organized terror-group then he would not be the first madman and fantasist to commit violence in the name of Islam (c.a. the attack ISIS inspired attack in a coffee-shop in Australia and the incident of a man beheading a neighbour in London earlier this year).

That this attack (and others) might not have been organized by a terrorist group lends more credence that it is the teaching of Islam that is corrupting, rather than evil terrorists corrupting peaceful-Islam for their own ends. Mad people will always do mad things, but for those mad people who are susceptible to committing acts of violence, a veneer of twisted legitimacy is provided by Islam, and it is used. Of course, for our politicians and certain sections of the media, that the potential murderer might be a lone-wolf will be used as an excuse to show that this attack is nothing to do with Islam, and just the act of a mad-man. But then, if the attacker is found to be sane and working for a terrorist group this will be used as evidence that the attack was nothing to do with Islam as well.

The potential attacker is thought to have attended a "radical mosque" in Spain. It is ridiculous that such places exist in Europe. After the Tunisian beach-attack earlier this year, the Tunisian government announced they were closing down around 80 mosques across the country that were thought to espouse extremist views. In the UK, since 2004, not one mosque has even been raided, despite us suffering three terrorist attacks on home-soil and countless overseas acts of terrorism carried out by British Muslims. Such is the cowardice of successive governments and, by extension, police forces here the idea that some of these extreme Islamic views might have originated in some of the mosques in this country is never even mentioned, let alone acted upon; the "absolute shock" of the local Iman and Muslim community that one of their own could have done such a thing is usually enough to dissuade the police from any proper investigation and look elsewhere for the source of the terrorists' radicalization. The cowardice of the government on this is suicidal.

I noticed this story over the Christmas period:

Muslim man leaves Katie Hopkins speechless in radio phone-in

...the story itself has very little to do with Katie Hopkins or her views, thankfully. What is most interesting and illuminating, of course, are the comments from the British Muslim. Views from "within" that show what we all know to be fundamentally true: the main responsibility for extremist and violent views from within a particular community should lie at the feet of the community itself.

So all Christians are to blame for Westboro Baptist Church and the murders of abortion doctors? One single, solitary Muslim proves nothing.

Probably one of those "self-hating" Muslims, right? Just like those Jews who criticize Israel are self-hating Jews? You're not the sort of person to hypocritically insinuate the former yet always claim the latter is a ridiculous counter-argument, are you?

The Westboro baptist doesn't have members "guest-speaking" at churches in this country and spreading its message among insular Christian communities (which are rare in this country anyway). Your comparison is ridiculous, as usual, and the desperation you use to find "Christian" examples is palpable.

One Muslim isn't "proof", but if you have watched the documentary "Undercover Mosque" (which itself is an old documentary) and the follow-up "Undercover School" you would know the testimony of this man chimes in with what was revealed in those documentaries.

And yet the documentaries I mentioned were nothing do with her. Indeed, the documentary makers were taken to court at the time for perceived "anti-Islamic" bias and completely exonerated.

The approach on the BBC seems to be not to do anything that will cause offence to Muslims, but do anything that will cause offence to Christians.

BBC2 have been doing an interesting four part documentary (Inside Obama's White House) on Obama (last one this coming Tuesday at 9pm) and Channel 4 had a programme on last week about what it would mean for the USA if Donald Trump were to become President.

For those who can access BBC iplayer, here's a link to the page with all the episodes on.

A blatant example of the BBC's bending over backwards to accommodate the time warp feelings of the followers of a barbaric 7th. century religion, cobbled together from grossly misunderstood Jewish and Christian sources as an excuse for a justifying back-up religion-cum-ideology for expansion (essential in those times, be it, for example Persian Mithraism, or new-kid-on-the-block 'Islam' itself, etc.) founded by a psychotic, violent, pederastic, slave-taking, Jew-massacring Arabian warlord*, is its constant reference in their online bulletins to the "so-called Islamic State", well in line with that other state, the state of denial of those from Obama downwards (I might say upwards) who refuse to accept that everything ISIS declares as its authentic authority for its violence is contained in the Koran and justified on the basis of the later 'sword suras (ie.verses)', according to the accepted Islamic concept of 'naskh', or abrogation, rendering the earlier more pacific verses (pragmatically tailored to the fragile early Medina situation of Muhammed and his followers), null and void. The later Al-Bukhari Hadiths ratify this with accepted authority.

To return to my quibble, the BBC (along with most other Western news outlets) never refers to other major extensive armed Islamist factions as 'so-called Al Qaeda', 'so-called Boko Haram' (West Africa), 'so-called Al-Shabaab' (Somalia and Kenya), etc., so why 'so-called Islamic State'? The reason is evident - crass denial that ISIS is fulfilling Muhammed's dream (or nightmare) of conquest and subjection to the letter (Koran, Hadiths, Sira) in our times as a perfectly legitimate renewal of the 1400 year-long ongoing Islamic jihad against the world.

[* All these labels and epithets are historically demonstrable, widespread gullibility and naiveté, the red herring of 'Islamophobia', deliberate misinformation ('taqqiya') and plain foolish, albeit well meaning but ultimately suicidal interfaith concessionism notwithstanding.]

You are right about Islam Greg. There is a letter in Saturdays National Post entitled Ask a Muslim, saying among other things the opposite. The letter opens thus:"With the rise of recent extremism in the world, critics are continuously pointing fingers at Islam for being the catalyst of much terrorism by fringe terror groups........Islam does not promote violence, people do. They misconstrue the peaceful teachings of Islam to justify their hatred acts." (Written by Shakil Mirza of Mississauga)

I haven't read such crap in a long time and am surprised that the paper printed it without comment. Oh well someone will comment on it in Monday's paper I hope. Yes., Shakil we know people both promote and act out in violence as terrorists and we know they are Muslim.

If you have God you will want for nothing.
God alone suffices.

Indeed, Pondero, and they justify their violence from the later verses in the Koran which abrogate the earlier ones (see my previous post.) In any case, one need only ask a simple question: How was the religion of Islam extended first throughout Arabia and then throughout the entire Middle East (which was almost wholly Christian territory) and beyond? The simple answer is: by violent conquest, by the sword, by subjugation and terror* and never by peaceful missionary activity, as was Christianity in its formative years. 'Islam is a religion of peace' sounds like a slogan Orwell's Ministry of Truth might have come up with.

[* See Koran sura (verse) 8:12: "I shall cast terror into the hearts of the unbelievers and you shall strike their heads and limbs." The practice continues today.]

NB. I've moved the last four posts from the television thread in General Discussion where they were originally.
